When your day is rumbling with things to do and everything feels overwhelming. Not knowing where to start or what needs to be done. Remember to take a breath and come take a walk with me.
Through the busy streets where everyone seems to run, take a moment to stop, look around and wonder. Marvel at everything around you, from the weeds that grow through the cracks in the pavement to that one piece of sky that you can still see between the buildings. It is easy to forget that nature is all around us, even when we don’t look for it. The butterfly that sweeps past on its way to a tiny flowerbed in a windowsill. The dandelion that sways in the wind ready to be plucked by a wondering child. The leaves on the ground creating patterns in the wind.
Walk past coffee shops and take a look inside. See the old man sitting alone enjoying his cup of tea. See how his eyes glimmer with a soft spray of tears while he reads his book of which the title you can’t see. Couples around him talking and laughing, sharing cakes and thoughts. But the old man completely sucked in his own world, forgetting his troubles and just purely living in bliss.
Walk a little further, underneath the scaffolding of a building where mesh sheets block the view inside. Notice the bird on a streetlight chirping away, singing his song. The hectic world around him won’t halt his flight. It isn’t bothered by the noises or the smells. The loud phone call a women makes or the screams of playing children.
When noises seem to fade away and the sky feels a little softer you find yourself on the outskirts of town. Only a little further ahead, at the end of the road, you see the embodiment of what freedom looks like, feels like, smells like. The open space of a flower field forming like a skirt around the tree line. The calm envelopes you and holds you in her arms. The warmth of the sun that kisses your skin. The soft breeze that plays with your hair and slightly loose fitting shirt. Open your arms and take a deep breath of fresh air. Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the earth. The world doesn’t seem so grey and dull when you look for the color’s it holds.
