NaNoWriMo – week 1 update

The first week of NaNoWriMo is officially over and I did as good and bad as I expected. Tuesday, the first day of November, was my best writing day. I managed to write 1.677 words, barely reaching the goal of 1.667 words. It was an amazing start but I knew that I wouldn’t be able to keep this momentum up. That didn’t mean that I was still going to try of course.

I had a busy week, both work related and personal, meaning I didn’t get much writing done in the evenings. Saturday was supposed to be my big writing day but for some reason I just couldn’t get the sentences from my mind onto paper. It was frustrating I admit, but I will not let that get me down. I am writing for myself, to complete my own personal goal of actually writing a novel. I am not participating in NaNoWriMo to prove something to others. So every word I put down is a win for me.

My word count:

01/11    1.677

02/11     765

03/11     762

04/11     415

05/11     494

06/11     849

Total      4.962

I had already started writing my manuscript before the first of November rolled around. Managing to write 1.254 words in the days leading up to NaNoWriMo. Bringing my manuscript to a total word count of 6.216 after the first week.

The traditional goal would be 10.002 words at this point. But my personal goal was 6.000 words (trying to reach 30.000 by the end of November, remember). This means that I am right on track with my personal goal and I am really proud of that!

Let’s see how this week will go, I have a feeling it will become easier from this point forward. My story is about to take off and I am really curious to see where it is going. Even though I’ve plotted most of my story already.

So tell me, what are your stats for the first week of NaNoWriMo? Are you on schedule or falling behind? No matter how many words you’ve written, be proud of what you’ve accomplished so far!

Take care and keep on writing!
